How to help Vizslas Rescue groups

September 28, 2011 by · Comments Off

It is a very unfortunate and sad fact that more dogs are put down everyday than you can imagine, for some reason or the other. It is also true that more number of dogs are either abandoned on purpose or abandoned by unkindly fate than put down. This is true for dogs of all breeds that you know about. However sometimes, a group such as a Vizslas rescue group can make a great difference how these dogs fare.

Of course not all Vizsla dogs are lucky enough to be taken in and cared by one of these Vizsla rescue groups, but sometimes miracles do occur, and even these destitute dogs get second chances. Most of these groups are however very poorly funded and require financial help to keep working, so apart from the task of saving Vizsla and other dogs are providing them with care and homes, these groups also need to search for funding in order to stay open.

This seems to be very unreasonable but this is how the things go on in real life, and most of these groups understand that this is how they would have to work. If you have ever owned a Vizslas you would understand how attached and loyal these dogs are to their masters. If this is touching for you, and you do think about the large number of dogs that have been rescued by the Vizslas rescue group, then you also can do something to help them.

As stated above, Vizslas rescue groups are always in need to assistance, either monetary or otherwise. Just look at your well adjusted Vizslas and imagine that if it were to be abandoned or pinned way from you and taken to a strange surrounding then what would be its condition. Wouldn’t you want that your Vizslas would get the best even if it stays at a Vizslas shelter?

Also you need to understand what would happen to the Vizslas staying at a shelter if the shelter was to close down? Obviously this may not be of any concern to you and you might not be able to do a lot for this kind of a situation but you can surely help out in your very own way. There is nothing sadder than watching a good Vizslas dog languishing in a shelter.

And the least you can do is to point someone who is looking for a Vizslas dog to one of these Vizslas shelters, and you would be doing a great service. This was more and more Vizslas puppies would be able to find a new home for themselves.

The Best Way to Get a Dalmatian

September 28, 2011 by · Comments Off

There are several people who do not want their dog to be all cuddly and cute. They want their dog to be the exact opposite of cute and cuddly i.e. ferocious, unfriendly and brute. If however you are interested in a pet dog that is in between these two extremities then a Dalmatian is the best choice for you and the best place to get a Dalmatian is from a Dalmatian breeder.

A great way to ensure that you get a good quality dog is to get your Dalmatian from a breeder rather than a pet store. Of course, if this the first time that you are going to get a dog, then it is better to explore all possible options before proceeding.

This is the reason why you should first find out that the Dalmatian breeder you are dealing with is a reputed breeder. You do not want to get your first Dalmatian puppy from a puppy mill running in the guise of a Dalmatian breeder. One characteristic of good breeders, both Dalmatian and otherwise, is that they would be interested in you as much as you would be interested in them.

They will generally ask you a lot of questions about your lifestyle so as to determine that you can take care of the Dalmatian or not. Dalmatian breeders just like other breeders are quite proud of their work and the amount of effort they put into breeding the dogs they sell, so in any case they would not allow their pure bred puppy to go into the hands of a person who is indifferent or who does not know how to care about their puppy as they should.

Most of the good Dalmatian breeders would ask you several questions and would even ask you to sign an agreement stating that if you are unable to take care of your Dalmatian, you would bring the dog back to the breeder. This is done by them to make sure that their dogs do not end up in shelters or with people who are indifferent to their needs.

Along with all of this you should also be prepared to ask as many questions of the breeders themselves because the Dalmatian breeders will be able to provide you with the necessary information on not only taking care of your Dalmatian, but also about its lineage as well as any genetic problems they might have (which will most likely have been bred out of them).

Being a Dalmatian owner is not an easy task, but the best way to start is to find a good and reputed breeder top get your Dalmatian puppy from. This is the only way to ensure that your puppy has had the best care since the day it was born.

Horse Gates Come In Many Different Styles

August 9, 2011 by · Comments Off

Any place that has horses is going to have some type of horse gates. Any fence has to have some way to get inside of the pastures. You cannot expect the horse to jump the fence to get inside. If they could jump it to get in, they can do the same to get out. These are also helpful when you have an animal that is not well-behaved.

These gates can be any color that you would like. Most of the time, they use steel to make them. Those are the most common ones that are sold now. These hold up a lot better than the wooden ones. Some people will make their own for inside of the stalls and other places too.

The length of these will vary with some be long and other being shorter. The barn stalls will have very short ones because there is no room open the larger ones. Pastures will most like have longer ones that will allow even the worst behaved horse to be brought through them. Sometimes people will be able to put the horse trailer right into the pasture when they are unloading.

The latches for them are going to be different for each one too. They are smart animals which means that they may be able to open up some of these latches. This is why a lot of them will get out of the fences. Some can be as simple as pushing a pin through something but others may require a lot more effort to latch them. It can be frustrating when horses are constantly escaping.

An untrained animal is not fun to try and catch when it gets out of the pen. A lot of people will run a string to electric fence across their entry way to the pasture so that if they do get it open, they will be too scared to run out. Some of them will go through regardless but most of them will not.

Not everybody is using this type of horse fence for an animal pasture though. Some people will use them to place at the end of their driveway to keep people out that do not belong in there. Other people may put them on a fenced in hay field so that they are able to fit their tractor through. Two of them can be put together so that the opening can be twice as large.

Painting these is very easily done when you want to change the color. It can match the rest of the items on the farm. These can be painted as many times as needed. There are many colors to choose from so usually color is not a problem. Most people can find what they need.

Animal supply stores and ones that carry farm equipment will more than likely sell these. A lot of lumber companies will have these too. They are not just used for farms. There are many uses of them. Because they are so durable, they can be used for a lot more than just horses. People that have some cattle, sheep or goats will buy these too.

Based in Ontario, we specialize in servicing the best horse fencing and equine fences. Whatever your needs, you can count on us to deliver solutions to any fence painting needs.

Staffy Puppy Training – The Importance of Training Your Young Bull Terrier

July 5, 2011 by · Comments Off

Staffy puppy training is one of the most essential priorities when you first get a staffordshire bull terrier. In particular throughout the first 12 months of your puppy’s lifetime it is crucial to get some education into place so that your home is kept clean and your family unit enjoys the settling in time. This training can then develop so that others are safe from your puppy. Staffy puppy training may differ from other types of education in later years but there are some fundamentals that are the same for most breeds.

Fundamental dog education at an early age is very significant as you want to instill good habits as soon as possible. Young children are relatively easy to educate as they don’t yet have fixed behaviours, and the same holds true for pups, who will enjoy education more whilst they are youthful.

One of the most important things to teach is to get your pet to go to the bathroom outside. This can be done in one of two ways. You can teach your dog about going during certain parts of the day, like after each meal or before bed time. Bear in mind though, that your dog may want to do its business at other times, if for instance it is ill. So teaching your pet to let you know when it wants to go to the toilet is very useful.

You may not think so, but teaching a pup to do this isn’t very hard. To achieve this, just ask your dog if it wants to go to the bathroom whenever you let it out of the house. Your dog will get used to hearing this term while doing its business and from then on it will associate it with “toilet time.” You will then be able to ask your pet whether it needs to go to the toilet and it will leap up if it does. If your puppy doesn’t react to your question, then obviously it doesn’t desire to go to the toilet.

A potentially unsafe time for a new dog is when you take it outside to explore and have fun. For instance, most people live in urban areas with plenty of cars, people and other pets. Because of this, it is really important to teach your pet to sit and stay or even to return to you during staffy puppy training. It can take a bit of time to instill these commands into your dog’s mind. In fact, there are a few owners who cannot do this at all.

The concern is that dogs like to play and explore so you will need to start and then gradually work your way up to allowing it to explore freely in the park. You can educate your dog to sit when around the home and then educate it to do the same around the garden. You will need to allow it to explore while on the lead when at the park but you could work your way up to allowing it off the lead. In time you can even instruct your dog to dispense with their lead entirely, and walk gently along beside you.

A dog can struggle when around other people or animals and this is something that you may need to deal with throughout staffy puppy training. It is worth noting that if the dog has been around its litter long enough, it will realize how to do this on its own. One way to see any changes in your dog’s socialization skills is to see how it responds when you have visitors during the first year of its’ life. Your dog might spring up and make a nuisance of itself, or it could just walk over to your guests for a pat. The restrained behavior is what you are aiming for.

The ideas you have just read form the fundamentals of staffy puppy training and there will be further aspects to come later on, but they make an excellent starting point.

Taming a Dominant Dog

June 12, 2011 by · Comments Off

I may not know a thing about you but I’ll bet that you are very excited when there is a new addition to the household.

However, after picking up your dog and bringing your pet into your home, you realize that your dog is quite dominant and hard to control. What do you do? Some of you may say you will start to train your dog. Wait! Do you know what you are talking about? How do you train a dog? Do you know what you are going to do when the dog keeps barking? Yes, it is not that simple. Just like with any tasks, don’t come unprepared. Understanding and knowledge are both essential so take the time to know why dogs behave that way.

Looking back at your canine friend’s origins, a dog is a descendant of wolves. Basically, although dogs have been domesticated thousands of years before, there are some characteristics similar to a wolf that is by instinct ingrained within your pet. For example, the sense of smell is like reading a newspaper for the dog. It tells everything just with a smell. Unlike for us, we need to see, hear and even feel to understand what’s going on. In other words, although domesticated they still retain some of their most basic instincts. You have to keep that in mind before going off to tame your dog.

If you feel that the time has come to start training your dog and show who’s boss then by all means start teaching your pet but remember three things for pet training: Focus, Take Control and claim all thing as your possession that is inside the house, of course.

Let’s talk about focus and why you need this. Sometimes it can be challenging to keep your cool especially if your dog is too annoying. So do you resort to using a stick and beating up your pet? Or yelling at your dog? That won’t do you any good. What you can do instead is be calm, steady and always remain firm. Whenever you start training or working with your dog remain consistently calm.

Next, take control of the situation. If you are teaching something new to your pet, maintain eye contact. By doing so, the dog will understand that you are in charge and the one in authority. Actually the submissive pet will look away. So if you often gaze away from your dog while speaking, it might come to an understanding that you cannot control your pet hence, remember to keep an eye contact with your pet.

The last part of training is to claim all things as yours whether this is about toys, food; rugs and so on stand your ground. You should only share your things with your dog when he understands that you are the one in charge.

Now that you are aware of these things, you can continue teaching your pet until the desired results are achieved. However in all things, remember to keep a little tender loving care for your pet, after all we are talking about your dog.

Thinking of training your pet dog? It’s not that easy. However, if you have a good training guide it will make things easier. Go to our website as we provide expert dog training reviews which you will benefit. Visit us at: http://www.dogtrainingtipsonline.net

What Should I Do If My Dog Eats Chocolate?

March 7, 2011 by · Comments Off

We all love our dogs, don’t we? We love to give them a little delicacy sometimes as well. Some dogs are so charming when they beg for a bit of what you are eating, but the fact is that some foods that are alright for us to eat are not so good for dogs. This ought not come as much of a surprise as you would almost certainly be quite ill too if you ate a half-rotten rat that you found in the hedgerow.

The most common human food that will kill your dog is chocolate or more accurately the theobromine in the chocolate. Some chocolate has more theobromine in it than others. For example, white chocolate has only 1 mg of theobromine per 28 g (1 oz) whereas baking chocolate has 450 mg per 28 g.

So how much theobromine does it take to poison a dog? Well, the answer to that depends on several considerations like age and health but most significantly the weight of the dog. Let us say that an average, knee-high, collie-type dog weighs 20 kilos (about 45 lbs.), then it would take about 250 kg (560 lbs) of white chocolate to harm him, but he probably would have exploded by then anyway having eaten 12.5 times his body weight in food.

However, the scenario changes quickly when we examine other types of chocolate. It would take about 1.5 kg (3 lbs) of milk chocolate to have the same outcome and about a third of that in sweet cacao or half-a-kilo (1 lb). The most hazardous substance is baking chocolate. It only takes just over 100g or four and a half ounces of baking chocolate to give a medium sized dog life threatening problems.

Therefore, the biggest danger would be of a dog eating a chocolate cake with chocolate icing or topping. Children are the worst, albeit innocent, culprits: they frequently give dogs cake at parties and it is one to look out for.

So, what should you do if your dog eats chocolate? It depends on the quantity and the quality and your dog. The safest thing would be to get him to the vet as soon as possible, but if you are sure of yourself you could wait for symptoms like vomitting, diarrhea, twitching, seizure, palpitations or undue wetting.

Theobromine attacks a dog’s central nervous system so not all dogs will react in the same way, but you will definitely discern that your dog is perplexed, befuddled and distraught.

If you decide to treat your dog yourself, the first thing you should do is induce vomitting all the while comforting your dog. A 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide should do the trick. Give your dog a teaspoon full if it is under 10 kg and a tablespoon if it is over 10 kg. Administer every 15 minutes until it takes effect. After this, try to get some activated carbon into him to soak up any remaining poison. Follow the directions on the box.

If you live miles from anywhere or you think that your dog is at high risk (the school holiday season is the worst), you could get a pet’s first aid box from your vet. They are not dear and have a long shelf life and you will not be caught out if someone feeds your dog chocolate.

Owen Jones, the writer of this piece writes on quite a few subjects, but is at present involved with researching What to do if your dog eats chocolate. If you would like to know more, please go to our website at http://whattodoifyourdogeatschocolate.com.

Puppy Mills

February 27, 2011 by · Comments Off

What is not easy is to look at a clean, cute and fat puppy and imagine that it could come from a puppy mill. Unfortunately, a truly saddening fact is that puppy mills do exist and some pet stores that sell puppies get their puppies from these very mills.

The whole problem arises not because of the people who buy puppies from pet stores, but because the demand is so high for the puppies, and also simply because there is no adequate legislation or rules for things like these and what laws and rules that are present are not being enforced in the manner that they should be, for several reasons.

What you need to take care about when trying to get your own puppy, is not to just look out for pet stores which might be getting their dogs from puppy mills, but also for unscrupulous operators such as sellers on the Internet, or people selling puppies through classifieds and even one on one personal sale.

Wait a minute though, doesn’t that sound like any transaction you could have? After all there are only a limited number of ways in which you can get a puppy for yourself, and if you’re not a breeder yourself then your options of getting puppies are limited to the options including the ones mentioned above.

What you need to look at is not the overall situation of getting a puppy but try to understand every case on an individual basis. If you are checking properly the place from where your are getting your puppy, whether from a pet store, online breeder, or even a classified seller, then you can be fairly positive that you are not getting a puppy that has been bred in a puppy mill.

This is the most that you can do to stop puppy mills from flourishing. Many people will tell you that by getting your puppy from a pet store or a puppy breeder, it is tantamount to giving puppy mills the impetus to stay in business. This is just not the case.

Many of the pet stores that are around do not have any connections to puppy mills, and there are so many puppy breeders who are far removed from puppy mills and are running reputed and respected puppy breeding establishments. Many of these operations are indeed certified to be completely genuine, and a little bit of research and scouting on your part can help you to get a puppy from one of these reputed places.
