How to Decide Between a Cat and a Dog
March 29, 2011 by Peter Fred Smith · Comments Off
When it comes to choosing a pet there are two very popular options that stand out above others. Whichever you choose you are sure to be happy with your decision so don’t worry about choosing the wrong one or something like that.
The dog and cat are these choices that we are discussing and which many people consider. When many people think of pets they often think of one of these and that makes sense for many reasons.
It may seem obvious but in truth people decide on one of the two because of the enjoyment they get. You can maintain one of these as a pet but not blow the bank.
If you are deciding between these to options, it can sometimes be difficult to pick one over the other. But it makes sense because most people would be happy with either one but not necessarily.
A lot of times people would really only want one or the other for different reasons. Some people do have both in one home but this is not so common for obvious reasons.
A main factor to consider is that dogs are going to need more attention than cats often do. But they also tend to be more friendly and pay more attention to people.
Cats are often fond of having alone time and are less likely to jump on you when you get home at the end of the day. But you won’t have to put as much work in.
So you should figure out if you want to devote a lot of energy or a little to your pet and then make a decision. One of the main factors is how much time you want to put in.
Dogs will need more attention but will give more back. Cats need less but usually give less.

Everyone goes through it and the responses are usually the same. And no matter how bad you want it the answer initially is usually no.
It is almost a custom that has been accepted that a kid asks for a dog. And it is just as likely that the response is going to be a resounding no and this happens in many places every day.
The classic situation is where a kid wants a dog or a pet and asks their parents for a pet. They are almost always met with the same responses.
But you can do certain things that will help you to get on the road to getting Fido. The fact is that your parents really believe that no matter what you say, they will be taking care of the dog.
Something you have to prove is that you are responsible enough to take care of the pet by yourself. You really need to demonstrate your ability to be trustworthy and dependable.
One way to show your ability to be responsible is to show it in other places. If you can show that you can be trusted in other areas that it may crossover in their minds.
Also, make sure that they know that you are serious. If they think it is just a joke they won’t even entertain the possibility of getting you a pet.

Tips for Selecting a Dog
March 24, 2011 by Peter Fred Smith · Comments Off
Many people are very anxious to have a dog in their home but when it comes time to decide what type of dog they should get, the choices seem very intimidating. There are so many options it is hard to pick one.
If you do some research you can limit the decisions you have to make. When you think about several different factors, your decision will be much easier to make.
You will want to consider where the dog will be living and then go from there. You don’t want to place the dog in a situation that won’t agree with the particular type of dog.
If you live in a big home and have a lot of grass then a large dog can get along just fine. But if you are in a cramped apartment it might be unfair to get a big dog.
You should know that certain dogs are more prone to running around than others so if you pick one of these you will need more room. Some dogs won’t need as much space.
You will also be deciding about how much grooming the dog will need. Often dogs with longer hair will require more attention in order to maintain the health of their coat.
You should also consider how much money you have to spend on the dog because bigger dogs require more food. Smaller dogs eat less so they are less expensive to maintain in that respect.
If you have certain type of people in the home you will want to be careful as far as what kind of dog you get. Certain dogs won’t get along as well with older people as certain other dogs.
Whatever you choose you can make a more informed choice when you consider these factors. Enjoy your new dog.

How to Identify Common Health Problems in Dogs and Cats
March 18, 2011 by Peter Fred Smith · Comments Off
Pets are great to have around. They are a lot of fun to play with and they keep you company when you are lonely among the many other things that pets provide to a person’s life.
However, there are times when the pets are not quite as healthy as other times and they become a big responsibility. You should know what the signs are that something is wrong so you can help.
Pets are much more pleasurable when they are doing well but they still rely on you to help them when they aren’t. It is part of the job of owning a pet.
It is not responsible to just care for a pet when it is feeling good. That is not right because once you begin to care for a pet it relies on you for everything.
That is why it is a good idea to know what the signs are of a sick pet. You will want to look out for a few different factors and then address them so that the pet can regain it’s health.
Dogs can have upset stomachs for many reasons but you have to recognize the signs. They will often not eat as well and they will drink more than usual, and this can happen for a number of reasons.
Cats that are losing more weight than normal and who go to the bathroom a lot may be suffering from feline diabetes. A veterinarian should be consulted for the next steps.
If cats or dogs sneeze often it could be that they have developed allergies to any of a number of things in the air or on the ground. You might consider taking it out of that environment.
When considering that something might be wrong with a dog or cat one should use their sense to figure out if something is different and then maybe wrong. If you see them acting differently it is usually a sign that something is going on.

Cage Coaching The Yorkie
February 27, 2011 by Dewey Barlow · Comments Off
If you have ever owned a Yorkie, you know they can be difficult to potty-train. However, crate training can make the method far easier for lots of reasons. In this article, I will discuss crate training your Yorkie.
Yorkies are perceptive dogs. In reality studies have shown that they can learn commands quicker than a significant number of other breeds. However they can still be unrelenting when it comes to potty-training. Using a crate will keep them confined so they can stay clear of difficulty.
Dog crates come in numerous different sizes, but you want to be certain you find one that is the right size for your Yorkie. You do not want one that’s so small that they cannot move in, and you do not need one that’s too massive, or your Yorkie will urinate in it. You want to find one that’s just enough room for them to walk around in.
You will want to put a comfortable blanket or doggie bed in their crate to keep them comfortable. Don’t put too much in there at first in the event your Yorkie has an accident in it.
Your Yorkie should stay in their crate in the night and when no one is at home. This keeps them from roaming the house freely and hinders them from having accidents in the house. Just do not forget to take them outside to go potty first thing in the morning or when you get home.
If your Yorkie has an accident inside the house, don’t punish them by making them go their crate. You do not need them to suspect that their crate is a type of punishment. It should be a safe, comfortable area for your Yorkie. Most small dogs will basically like being in their crates because they feel safe and comfortable in it.
Crate training does wonders if done properly and even after your Yorkie is trained, they may still prefer to sleep in it.

Puppy Mills
February 27, 2011 by Yesenia Troxil · Comments Off
What is not easy is to look at a clean, cute and fat puppy and imagine that it could come from a puppy mill. Unfortunately, a truly saddening fact is that puppy mills do exist and some pet stores that sell puppies get their puppies from these very mills.
The whole problem arises not because of the people who buy puppies from pet stores, but because the demand is so high for the puppies, and also simply because there is no adequate legislation or rules for things like these and what laws and rules that are present are not being enforced in the manner that they should be, for several reasons.
What you need to take care about when trying to get your own puppy, is not to just look out for pet stores which might be getting their dogs from puppy mills, but also for unscrupulous operators such as sellers on the Internet, or people selling puppies through classifieds and even one on one personal sale.
Wait a minute though, doesn’t that sound like any transaction you could have? After all there are only a limited number of ways in which you can get a puppy for yourself, and if you’re not a breeder yourself then your options of getting puppies are limited to the options including the ones mentioned above.
What you need to look at is not the overall situation of getting a puppy but try to understand every case on an individual basis. If you are checking properly the place from where your are getting your puppy, whether from a pet store, online breeder, or even a classified seller, then you can be fairly positive that you are not getting a puppy that has been bred in a puppy mill.
This is the most that you can do to stop puppy mills from flourishing. Many people will tell you that by getting your puppy from a pet store or a puppy breeder, it is tantamount to giving puppy mills the impetus to stay in business. This is just not the case.
Many of the pet stores that are around do not have any connections to puppy mills, and there are so many puppy breeders who are far removed from puppy mills and are running reputed and respected puppy breeding establishments. Many of these operations are indeed certified to be completely genuine, and a little bit of research and scouting on your part can help you to get a puppy from one of these reputed places.
