Purchasing Grain Free Dog Food
November 17, 2011 by Jamie Lansley · Comments Off
Very few people who are pet owners really have a sound knowledge of what sort of food they are purchasing for their pets. However, it’s hard to say if we can really blame them. Most of us take a suggestion of dog food through two sources: a veterinarian or the cost. After all, cost is an important component when you have to buy dog food on such a regular basis. Those pounds can really add up. That said, we have a recommendation of why grain free dog food can be beneficial for both the health of your dog, and the balance of your bank accounts. Not to mention, we do not think there are too many veterinarians who wouldn’t back our cues.
For the standard dog owner, there are really only two focuses on food, or rather the variety of food, and they are either raw food or moist food.
With this being the case, we want to speak in terms of raw food, and we want to speak in clear terms. While moist food can be all well and good, we are more interested in the health options based around grain free dog food, as well as the simple cost difference in raw food over moist food, which is often much more expensive. Not to cause any offense, it is simply our focus right now.
Please understand that many still view wet food as the higher choice food when it comes to feeding your dog, and this is largely because of its associated price tag.
But, we are in a new era where wet food and dry food have actually share only one core value and that is the way in which they are processed. However, wet or moist food is processed by being loaded with preservatives, which can be unhealthy. Dry food, on the other hand has made new strides.
Firstly, let’s take moist food off the bargaining table. This isn’t to say its a bad product, many are not, but we are going to narrow this discussion to price. Moist costs more than dry, and we’re talking about grain free dog food, which, oddly, can be found in more dry.
Now to the meat of the matter, grain free dog food offers ingredients that no other dog food can. They are loaded not with a high preservative count and not in an highly processed manner, but with new treatments that fill it with nutrients. Nutrients that will stave off arthritis risks, improve your dogs coat, improve the health of your dog’s diet, and all why saving you money. Sound appealing?
What is most important to note though, is that ultimately one needs to have their animal in their best interest. That means they need to provide their dog with a food they are going to want to eat, and a food that is going to make them healthier, revitalizing their lifestyle. This is much the same way we would not fill our diet eating something we didn’t like to, or only eating things that could cause us health problems. The best recommendation we can make then, is to go out and find the right grain free dog food brand for your pet that you are able.

Feeding Your Canine Pets – Decisions To Make
July 5, 2011 by Michael Ward · Comments Off
Roger Caras quoted that “dogs are not are whole life, but they make our lives whole”. True enough, dogs help perform many roles for people like hunting, herding, pulling loads, protection, assisting police and military, companionship, and more recently, aiding handicapped individuals. As such, dogs are considered man’s best friend. Hence, their health is an important consideration for dog owners. As a result of this, various dog foods have been manufactured to cater to the various needs of our canine friends.
Dogs -which are a domesticated form of the gray wolves, have been domesticated about 15,000 years ago. Through these years, the dog has developed into hundreds of varied breeds. In 2001, the population of dogs all over the world is estimated at 400 million. Among these 400 million dogs are the toy breeds or toy dogs which have become increasingly popular over the last two hundred years because of their small size even as mature animals -which is a great factor especially for dog owners living in cities and in houses with small yards or apartments. There also are sporting, non-sporting, working, terrier, hound, and herding breeds of dogs. As such, the type of dog food that must be feed to a specific breed of dog is also a factors dog owners must consider in selecting their dogs’ food.
Age of dogs is also important in choosing the right food for your pet. One must know that puppy’s food may not supply all the nourishment needed by an adult dog and also, that an adult’s dog food may not have the right nutrients needed by the puppy for its growth.
One must remember that a healthy, well balanced and nutritious dog food promotes healthy skin and coat, strong well developed bones, bright clear eyes, firmer stools, well defined muscle tone, quality of life and longevity, healthy teeth and gums, fewer trips to your Vet, no bad odor, fewer digestive problems, energy, vitality, fewer behavior problems and over all health. On the other hand, a dog fed with an inappropriate dog food is often prone to cancers, weakened immune system, liver failure, sluggish behavior, putrid gas, diarrhea, dull coat and heavy shedding, epilepsy, vomiting, ear infections, compromised heart and kidneys, stunted growth and weakened bones, bad breath, bowel disease, diabetes, cystitis, cataracts, hypertension, build up in the eyes, arthritis, countless allergies, etc.
There are three types of food that we may feed our dogs. The first one is the Commercial dog food. Commercial dog food or store-bought dog food comes in two forms, which is the dry form and wet canned form. Various commercial dog foods are sold in the markets, and one must not be confused on deciding which one to purchase. Owners must remember to check the labels of the product before buying to ensure that it has the needed nutrients of your pets.
Raw food is another option of food to feed your dogs. Those dog owners supporting raw feeding try to mimic the diet of animals living in the wild -which they think is the ideal diet -for their domesticated animals. On the other hand, detractors believe that consumption of raw meats increases the chances of their pets of having food-borne illnesses. Another option is to prepare the meal yourself. Homemade dog food is the best option for dog owners having conflicting views on the various dog foods available in the market. With homemade dog food, dog owners have the complete control of meals they served to their dogs -hence, making sure that they receive the nutrients they need.
Despite these various feeding options, one must always remember that what is at stake in choosing the dog food to feed your pets is your dogs’ health. So whether your Hundefutter -as they call dog food in German -is a commercial dog food like the Select Gold Hundefutter, raw food or homemade, so long as it meets your dog’s nutritional requirements, then it is the best food for your pet.
Ward manages a veterinary clinic in Dresden, Germany. To see to it that his dog patients receive the optimum care they deserve, he only feeds them with the best Hundefutter (dog food) suitable for their age and breed. He highly suggests Select Gold Hundefutter.
Frank Gets A Barf Diet
April 29, 2011 by Lisa Levin · Comments Off
I got to the bottom of my expensive commercial hypoallergenic dog food bag and made a decision to use the stuff in my refrigerator for a Biologically Appropriate Raw Food Diet for our dog for just one week. It was simply to get it together. When that was done, then I split it into Saran Wrap packets of three half pound rounds and popped them in the freezer. In less than an hour I had an entire week of BARF rounds for our dog.
A little insecure at first, I gave our dog three patties each day–morning, noon and night. Our dog is big, so it didn’t seem like enough food. My partner was referring to them sarcastically as little puppy “snacks.”
While I was feeling bad, Frank was getting more and more lively. In one week, Frank seemed to return to his puppy-like black lab self. He was playful, energetic, feisty, and seemingly happier (labs act happy and unhappy sometimes.) Also, he stopped his incessant whining. Stopped it completely. That is hard to understand.
I know I read plenty of blogs that said whining could be cured with BARF Diets, but I didn’t really believe it would stop Frank. He is kind of annoying.
Lest you misunderstand me here…I adore the dog. Sadly he is a miserable pet. I have to say it.
Our dog has been returned to his puppyhood and he is nearly 10 years old now. Since the first week went so well, I decided on a second week of the BARF Diet and his behavior stayed the same. Right this second he is holding his toy baby in his mouth and occasionally slapping me with it so that I will play. What, you want to play?
I feel incredulous. Incredulous. If you have a lack luster dog, feed him better food–BARF Food. It has our dog fully revived.
Stay connected here. This dog is a great tester of the BARF Diet and all hypoallergenic dog foods. Good dog food is his game.

It is best to avoid drinking and smoking all together. You need to exercise at least three times a week, and it is best to do so in the morning as you feel good and energized all throughout the day. Exercising will put you in a good mood, and it will be a lot easier to maintain your positive attitude.
Getting involved in sports that you like to remain active including running, walking, swimming, or biking is very important. Tips On How To Have A Health And Fitness Fair In Your Community
February 18, 2011 by Moses Havlichek · Comments Off
Not everyone knows how to pay attention to their health appropriately and need a little encouragement to do so. To educate community members about necessary medical care and ways in which to get it, it is advocated to hold a health fair in the community. If the need is there, it is possible create one.
As most are aware, it can be very difficult to get individuals to come into the doctor’s office to have their blood pressure taken, cholesterol checked, or any other health screening. However, the truth of the matter is if these items are not checked, an individual can be at risk for serious medical conditions. For example, hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, is considered by most in the medical field as a ?silent killer,? meaning that it is not noticed until it is too late. It is, therefore, vital for individual over the age of 50 and those with a family history of high blood pressure to have it checked.
The location of the health fair needs to be the first item on the to-do list. The location should be put in a highly populated area that people may pass throughout the day. Common locations for health fairs include school gyms, fire stations, veteran association halls, and community centers.
Once the organizer has secured a location, the next task is to find health professionals from all walks of life willing to set up a stand. Educations vendors should be one of the top priorities. These vendors would include cholesterol and blood pressure screenings, nutrition guides, body fat evaluations, smoking cessation assistance, alternative health information, information and guidance for low income medical assistance, and family planning information. As well, research the vendors to make sure there will be no legal complications. Locate if any of the tests require signed disclaimers.
Do not forget the fun vendors as well, or else the health fair will not be as enjoyable. Set up a section for kids to be educated on health issues. Get vendors willing to give free or greatly reduced massages. Think about getting a caterer for healthy snacks as well as a raffle with gifts from the vendors.
Promotion is key when it comes to getting individuals to visit the health fair. Best forms of advertisement include newspaper ads, signs around the community, and fliers distributed to different shops in the area. Call the local radio station to see if they will plug the health fair. If possible, put a notice about it in the school bulletins.
Have a health fair every year. Do not get discouraged if it is a small turnout. More individuals will arrive each year it is a presented. It is a great opportunity for those in the health field to educate others about the importance of health.
